"Expedition to Skull Island" updated to v1.3

This morning, a valiant player took time out of their day to educate me that "spastic" is an ableist slur.  I'd used it in the game to describe something moving erratically, but I hope everyone believes me when I say I didn't intend the ableist aspect of it. I'm a bit mortified, frankly. TIL.

I've replaced the instances of it in the document and uploaded it to the main site.  If you want to replace them in your own printed document, you can print out pages 37 and 39 (or 37-40 if you print double-sided) and replace those pages to catch all changes.

I also noticed I forgot to update the version number on page 2 when I released version 1.1 and 1.2, so this fixes that, as well.

This follows on a few quick updates from earlier this week where other typos and errors have been brought to my attention by players and corrected.  If you haven't been following along, here is the complete list of changes since version 1.0:

  • Versin 1.3 – Removed an (unintentional!) ableist slur.  Also updates the internal version number.
  • Version 1.2 – Added some text to clarify that if an enemy has a defense entry of, say, "soldier+1+ammunition", you can still use that option to try to score a hit even if the crew member is not trained in soldier; it's just easier for your soldier-trained crew.  Crew members who aren't trained in soldier can still attempt that roll (and now the rules explicitly say so).
  • Version 1.2 – Fixed the discrepancy between the foraging table in the text of the book and the foraging table in the reference sheet at the end of the book.  The one in the reference sheet was correct, so the one in the body of the rules was replaced.
  • Version 1.2 – Added some clarifying language on what "Supply" actually represents.
  • Version 1.2 – Added a rule that you cannot just freely hand personal items around in combat; it takes an action, and the person handing over the item has to be the one to take the action to do it.  (This prevents handing a totem around to let everyone attack with its bonus, say.)
  • Version 1.1 – Fixes an incorrect paragraph reference in #66 of the Beach encounters section.

The changes in verision 1.3 are on pages 37 and 39, changes in version 1.2 are on pages 3, 4, 5, and 11, and the changes in version 1.1 are on page 19.  If you've already printed the game, reprinting those pages (or pages 3-6, 11-12, 19-20, 37-40 if you print double-sided) and replacing them in your print copy will update all the changes.  If you want to also update the document version number, replacing page 2 (or 1-2 double-sided) will update that, but it has no effect on the game itself.

Also, I want to say thanks to the players who take the time to let me know about issues like the above.  Fixing these issues now will help smooth the experience for all future players, so I appreciate the time people take to mention these things!

Thank you for taking care of this so quickly. I think we're all learning, so hopefully we can be granted some extra slack if we act to correct an error.

I hope so, too!
